"Reaffirm the Right to Gather Publicly"

Akira’s Book Club partnered with the legendary Bay Area hip-hop group Souls of Mischief for the “Reaffirm the right to Gather Publicly” event at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. It was in conjunction with the Soul of a Nation exhibit featured. We hosted children at the museum through read alouds, puzzles, coloring, masks and fantasy play. Our volunteers were fabulous and families in attendance truly enjoyed being able to have hands-on activities. Parents shared they, too, learned something about language via our read alouds and discussions. The film, “Till Infinity” tracing the journey of Souls of Mischief from their Oakland beginnings, a panel discussion about the film, and a live performance were also held. It was an exhilarating event!
