"12 Days of Christmas" - December 22, 2019: Oakland, CA
"12 Days of Christmas" Akira’s Book Club was invited to read aloud to children attending the 12 Days of Christmas event in Oakland held on December 22. They raised over 13K to purchase Christmas gifts for families in need. We enjoyed the wonderful luncheon, activities and reading aloud to the children in attendance. We also donated books as gifts. Akira made Christmas ornaments and friends!

"Akira's Animal Alphabet Alliterations Video Premier" The premiere of the video of our most popular book, Akira’s Animal Alphabet Alliterations was held at Bishop O’Dowd High School. We partnered with Akira’s school, Ile Omode, and featured three local authors - Robert Liu Trujillo, Kamaria Lofton and Ajamu Stewart. In addition to Ile Omode, we shared the podium with two other wonderful groups that focus on empowering our children, Livanthropy and the Village Project’s Emanyatta Saturday School. "de Young Museum - Reaffirm the right to Gather Publicly"- December 14, 2019: San Francisco, CA
Thank you de Young Museum! "Reaffirm the Right to Gather Publicly" Akira’s Book Club partnered with the legendary Bay Area hip-hop group Souls of Mischief for the “Reaffirm the right to Gather Publicly” event at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. It was in conjunction with the Soul of a Nation exhibit featured. We hosted children at the museum through read alouds, puzzles, coloring, masks and fantasy play. Our volunteers were fabulous and families in attendance truly enjoyed being able to have hands-on activities. "Literacy and Hip Hop" - March 16th, 2019: San Francisco, CA
Thank you for joining us at: "Literacy and Hip Hop" Our Literacy and Hip Hop event at the Fillmore Heritage Center was a fabulous family event. It was hosted by Ms. Kim Caldwell, the creator and host of the online "Kim Caldwell Show" and public announcer, Mr. James Earl Rockefeller III, also know as the "Voice above the Room." Nearly 70 children ranging from two to ten years old drew, wrote stories and haiku poems, played with puppets, blew bubbles, and enjoyed interacting with their facilitators.
